Testing (Personality & Skill Testing)

Personality profiles and skill tests are a common feature in the selection process of most blue chip company's these days. They are nothing to be afraid of, they simply assist recruiters in matching your skills and tendencies to the job requirements and the company culture. It is so important to take your time when completing these tests. Don't rush through the questions. If the test is taken on line, choose a time and place where you won't be disturbed or interrupted.

Personality Testing

  • There are no right or wrong answers. The best answer to choose is the one that you most identify with.
  • Follow your first reaction. In questions where you are inclined to answer 'it depends', think about your behavioural tendencies - what do you do on a daily basis?
  • Answer honestly. As much as possible, avoid the temptation to choose answers simply because they sound most desirable. This may diminish the accuracy of your feedback. Questions are often asked more than once in a different way, these answers are compared to assess consistency.
  • Skill Testing (Aptitude)

  • Skills or aptitude testing differs from personality testing in one key area..... There ARE right and wrong answers.
  • You should work through the test questions methodically and ensure you keep an eye on timescales. These tests are usually time restricted, therefore it is important you do not dwell too long on questions you are struggling with. If you don’t know the answer just move on to the next question and do your best. If you finish the test in the timescale set you should then re visit the questions where you struggled to give an answer.
  • Once again, key advice is.... do not panic, be logical and learn from the experience.
